How Technology Affects Boating Industry

Yacht Tied to Dock Like every other industry today, boating is seeing huge technological advances. It seems like each year, we’re offered a glimpse into boating’s future, with new prototypes, initiatives, and gadgets that look to solve some of boating’s greatest issues.

There are many types of technology that are changing the boating industry as we know it today.

Here’s a look into the latest news in the boating industry.

Boats that Run on Renewables

This is a big one. The buzzword right now is “sustainability,” or finding lifestyles or sources that use less energy. The boating industry is no different—several companies out there today are experimenting with “sustainable” boats that use both solar or wind energy to operate (so you don’t need to buy any more fuel), or are recycled plastics, that last long. While in the prototype phase still, this is something to keep an eye on.

Ability to See at Night

Of course, we have radar, but don’t you wish sometimes that you could really see at night? That’s hopefully the future of thermal imaging cameras, which are increasingly smaller in size, so captains or navigators can carry around the equivalent of night vision in their pocket. This will not only make boating safer, but also, more easily accessible at all hours of the day.

Mapping Out the Fish

And last but not least, the one we’re the most excited about. Let’s just say that there are gadgets on the market right now that can map out exactly where the best spots to fish are, in real-time. What do we mean by that? We’re talking modules that use GPS, chart plotter, and radar technology to lead you to the shoals. Get fishing!

As we said, technology is changing boating as we know it. And these three examples are just a preview of what we’re watching out for. At V-Dock, we’re always looking for initiatives that excited us. Contact us today if you have any questions!
