Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What makes V-Dock different from other dock systems?

Our patented “V”-shaped aluminum support beam design, lightweight aluminum construction, flexible Connecting Pins, and Screw Drive Legs make installation and adjustments easier than traditional docks.  The V-Beam shape multiplies its structural strength, enhances safety, and simplifies maintenance. While the Flexible Connecting Pins allow for the dock to be removed in one piece, flexing while going over rip rap or uneven terrain. The elevated, open design also helps prevent weeds and debris from collecting under your dock.

Where are V-Docks manufactured?
All V-Docks are proudly manufactured in Forest Lake, Minnesota. Our docks are built in-house at our Minnesota facility, where we control the materials, craftsmanship, and quality of every component from frames and beams to wheels and hardware. Product Questions

Why is a V-Dock Roll-In system better than other systems?

V-Dock Roll-In systems are engineered to be lighter, stronger, and more stable than traditional roll-in docks. By using shorter dock sections and more wheel kits, the dock rolls more easily while increasing overall frame strength and virtually eliminating side sway and bounce.
Height adjustments are simple with Screw Drive Legs, offering 2½ feet of adjustment per leg for precise leveling as water levels change.
V-Dock’s exclusive aluminum “V”-beam construction provides continuous support beneath the decking and absorbs movement from waves and activity—without rust or corrosion. Our Flexible Connecting Pin design allows dock sections to flex up and down at the joints on steep inclines up to 40 degrees, while remaining securely connected when moving the dock in and out of the water.

What is a Post Sectional Dock System best suited for?

A Post Sectional Dock is best suited for shorelines with steep slopes, limited space, deep water, or heavy muck where a Roll-In dock isn’t practical. It’s an excellent option for areas with firm or challenging lake bottoms and for situations that require a dock to be installed one section at a time in the water. Post Sectional docks offer flexible layout options while providing the strength, stability, and low-maintenance performance V-Dock is known for.

What is a Roll-N-Float Dock System best suited for?

A Roll-N-Float Dock System is best suited for deep water, steep drop-offs, and mucky lake bottoms where traditional dock installation is difficult or physically demanding. It’s an ideal solution for shorelines where lifting or carrying dock sections isn’t practical.
The Roll-N-Float system allows the dock to be rolled to the water’s edge and floated into place by one person, then secured by installing the posts and removing the floats. It combines the strength and stability of a Post Sectional dock with the ease and convenience of a floating installation.A Roll-N-Float Dock System from V-Dock

How do the screw drive legs work?

V-Dock Screw Drive Legs make leveling your dock fast and easy. Each leg features a built-in screw mechanism that allows the dock height to be adjusted by simply turning the drive—no lifting or repositioning required. With up to 2½ feet of adjustment per leg, you can fine-tune the dock to changing water levels or uneven lake bottoms quickly and precisely. The result is a stable, level dock with minimal effort.

Can I customize the layout of my dock?

Yes. V-Dock systems are fully customizable to fit your shoreline, water depth, and how you use your dock. Sections can be arranged in a wide variety of configurations using 4’, 8’ or 12’ widths in a variety of lengths including  straight runs, L-shapes, T-shapes, single or multiple boat slips, and more—using different section lengths, ramps, and accessories.
With nearly endless layout possibilities, our team works directly with you to design a dock system that best suits your lake conditions, boating needs, and lifestyle.

Installation & Maintenance Questions

How difficult is it to install a V-Dock?

V-Dock systems are designed to be easy to install, even for homeowners with no prior dock experience. Lightweight aluminum construction, shorter dock sections, and smart engineering features—such as Screw Drive Legs, Break-Away Post Brackets, and optional Roll-N-Float systems—significantly reduce lifting and physical effort.
Most installations can be completed with minimal help, and our team provides guidance, instructions, and support to ensure a smooth setup. The result is a dock that installs efficiently, adjusts easily, and is simple to remove at the end of the season.

Do I need to remove my dock in winter?

In most cases, yes. In regions where lakes freeze, V-Dock systems should be removed before winter to prevent damage from ice movement and shifting water levels. Seasonal removal helps protect your dock and extend its lifespan.
Because V-Dock systems are lightweight and designed for easy installation and removal. Taking your dock out at the end of the season, or anytime, is simple. Our team can also help you determine the best removal timing and method based on your lake conditions and dock type.

What maintenance is required for a V-Dock?

V-Dock systems require very little maintenance. The aluminum frame will not rust or corrode, and our maintenance-free Poly Decking won’t rot, splinter, or require staining or sealing. The open, clean frame design also helps prevent weeds and debris from collecting underneath the dock.

Routine maintenance is minimal and typically includes occasional rinsing, visual inspections, and checking hardware for tightness. With proper seasonal removal and basic care, a V-Dock will provide reliable performance for many years.
